THE SAUCE REPORT: ONE BITE DUMPLING

One Bite Dumpling
23120 Lyons Ave, Suite 6, Santa Clarita, CA 91321

SEVEN DISHES. ONE FAMILY TABLE.

This wasn’t a meal built around one order.

It was a family feast.

We ordered takeaway from One Bite Dumpling, brought everything home and placed the whole lot in the middle of the table.

Dumplings.

Pot stickers.

Dim sum.

A couple of larger dishes.

And one family ready to decide what deserved to be ordered again.

THE ORDER

We went with seven different dishes:

  • Pork Xiao Long Bao

  • Chicken & Corn Dumplings

  • Beef & Onion Pot Stickers

  • Shrimp & Pork Shao Mai

  • Sesame Balls

  • Eggplant with Garlic Sauce

  • Mongolian Beef

There was plenty to share.

More importantly, there was enough variety to make sure nobody spent the entire meal eating the same thing.

Everyone tried a little of everything.

And by the end, three clear favourites had emerged.

PORK XIAO LONG BAO

These were one of the strongest dishes in the order.

The important thing to remember with Xiao Long Bao is that there is hot soup waiting inside.

And these definitely delivered.

The broth almost popped in your mouth when you bit into the dumpling.

Hot.

Juicy.

And slightly dangerous if you forgot what you were eating.

The pork filling was tasty, while the soft wrapper held everything together until that first bite released the broth.

Meat, dumpling and hot soup all in one mouthful.

Exactly what we wanted.

8/10.

CHICKEN & CORN DUMPLINGS

These were probably the quietest dish on the table.

There was nothing particularly wrong with them.

They were simply milder and didn’t have the same impact as some of the other dumplings.

When you’re sharing seven dishes, standing out matters.

The Chicken & Corn Dumplings never quite found their moment.

6/10.

BEEF & ONION POT STICKERS

These were another family favourite.

The beef and onion worked really well together, creating a filling with plenty of flavour.

The pot sticker style also brought a different texture to the table after the softer dumplings.

That became particularly useful when we started moving between dishes.

One soft.

One crispier.

One more bite.

These are firmly on the reorder list.

8/10.

SHRIMP & PORK SHAO MAI

The Shrimp & Pork Shao Mai were another solid choice.

The combination of shrimp and pork provided plenty of flavour without making them feel too heavy.

They didn’t quite reach the level of the Xiao Long Bao or the Beef & Onion Pot Stickers.

But they disappeared without much difficulty.

7/10.

SESAME BALLS

After plenty of savoury dishes, the sesame balls gave us something different.

They were a nice, sweeter change towards the end of the meal and helped break up all the dumplings, meat and sauce.

Not the main event.

But a welcome addition to the table.

7/10.

EGGPLANT WITH GARLIC SAUCE

This was one of the surprise favourites.

The eggplant had loads of flavour and worked really well with the garlic sauce.

It also gave us something completely different from the meat and dough making up much of the order.

But the best part came when we started combining dishes.

The Beef & Onion Pot Stickers with the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce became one of my favourite bites of the entire meal.

Some combinations are carefully planned.

Others happen because everything is sitting in the middle of the table.

This one worked.

8/10.

MONGOLIAN BEEF

The Mongolian Beef was ordered less spicy and worked well as one of the larger dishes for everyone to share.

There was plenty of beef, good flavour and another useful break from eating dumplings all the way through the meal.

It didn’t quite reach the top group.

But it did its job well.

7/10.

THE DAMAGE

  • Pork Xiao Long Bao: $12.99

  • Chicken & Corn Dumplings: $12.99

  • Beef & Onion Pot Stickers: $15.99

  • Shrimp & Pork Shao Mai: $6.50

  • Sesame Balls: $6.50

  • Eggplant with Garlic Sauce: $14.99

  • Mongolian Beef: $16.99

Subtotal: $86.95
Tax: $8.91
Total: $95.86

THE FAMILY VERDICT

The best part of this meal was that no single dish had to carry the entire order.

Everyone could try something different.

Then try something else.

Then quietly return to whichever dish they liked most.

By the end, the winners were clear:

  • Pork Xiao Long Bao — 8/10

  • Beef & Onion Pot Stickers — 8/10

  • Eggplant with Garlic Sauce — 8/10

The Xiao Long Bao delivered that burst of hot broth we wanted.

The Beef & Onion Pot Stickers brought flavour and texture.

And the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce became the surprise favourite—especially when paired with the pot stickers.

The Chicken & Corn Dumplings were the only item that struggled to make an impression.

Everything else gave us a reason to keep reaching into the middle of the table.

If we ordered from One Bite Dumpling again tomorrow, the first three decisions would be easy.

Xiao Long Bao.

Beef & Onion Pot Stickers.

Eggplant with Garlic Sauce.

After that?

We may need another family meeting.

SAUCE SUMMARY

Best For: Ordering a large takeaway spread and letting the whole family share.

Order: Pork Xiao Long Bao, Beef & Onion Pot Stickers and Eggplant with Garlic Sauce.

Standout: The hot broth inside the Xiao Long Bao—and the pot stickers paired with the garlic eggplant.

Good to Know: The dishes offer enough variety to build a full family feast rather than relying on one main order.

The Damage: $95.86.

Return Visit: Yes. The family has already chosen the first three dishes.

SECRET SAUCE SCORE:

BURRITO BELT CHAMPIONSHIP – ENTRY 20

Los Originales Mexican Bar and Grill
23630 Newhall Ave #1, Newhall, CA 91321

THE SAUCE GETS MESSY

Twenty burritos.

One final contender.

After nineteen entries, we thought we knew exactly what to expect.

Then Los Originales served something that played by a very different set of rules.

It was wet.

It was messy.

And one part of the burrito delivered the highest score on the card.

But contender 20 also exposed the biggest question facing the entire competition.

After comparing so many different styles, can they all really be judged the same way?

Did the final contender challenge the leaderboard, or change how the Burrito Belt winner will be decided?

THE SAUCE FINDS ITS BALANCE

TEACISION
24802 Orchard Village Rd #A-2, Santa Clarita, CA 91355

Two iced teas.

Two completely different combinations.

And enough flavours to make us wonder whether either drink could keep everything under control.

One was fresh and fruity.

The other sounded like it could become very sweet, very quickly.

But TEACISION had other plans.

Nothing disappeared.

Nothing took over.

And both drinks were gone much faster than expected.

How did TEACISION make so many flavours work in one cup?

ON NEXT WEEK’S MENU

The Sauce Is Still Cooking

Next week, we’re pressing pause on the usual menu.

Not because we’ve run out of places to investigate.

Something new is taking shape behind the scenes.

We’re not ready to reveal it just yet.

But the next time the Sauce is served, it may look a little different.

Good Sauce is worth the wait.
