Gelati Gelato

THE GELATO SHOP I DIDN’T KNOW EXISTED
I had absolutely no idea there was a gelato shop in Santa Clarita.
Then I collected my burrito from El Fuego Mexican Grill and decided I wanted something sweet for dessert.
That was when I discovered Gelati Gelato.
The storefront is relatively small.
But when I walked inside, I found a counter packed with different gelato flavours and seating to the side for anyone who wanted to stay.
There were plenty of flavours to choose from.
Almost too many.
Choosing three was going to take some work.
THE FIRST TWO SCOOPS
I eventually settled on two flavours that immediately caught my attention.
Dulce de Leche.
A rich, creamy gelato with a sweet caramel flavour.
And Pistachio Bacio.
A pistachio gelato with crunchy pieces of pistachio mixed throughout.
Two scoops selected.
One left.
That was when I decided to hand control to the server.
THE MYSTERY SCOOP
I asked him to choose a third flavour that would complement the other two.
He recommended a vanilla gelato with a rather fancy name.
Unfortunately, I have completely forgotten what it was called.
I remember the vanilla.
I remember enjoying it.
I do not remember the posh name.
Clearly, I was more focused on eating the gelato than taking notes for the review.
The server packed all three scoops into a takeaway container, and I brought them home for the official taste test.
THE TASTE TEST
After finishing the burrito, it was time for dessert.
All three scoops were lovely and creamy.
But the Dulce de Leche was my favourite.
The sweet caramel flavour stood out immediately and made it the scoop I kept going back to.
The Pistachio Bacio was excellent too.
The pistachio flavour came with crunchy pieces throughout, adding some welcome texture alongside the creamy gelato.
Then there was the mystery vanilla.
Whatever its actual name may have been, the server made a good choice.
Its smooth, creamy flavour complemented the richer Dulce de Leche beautifully.
I may have forgotten the name.
But the recommendation worked.
THE DAMAGE
Three scoops: $11.99 before tax
Dulce de Leche.
Pistachio Bacio.
And one extremely well-named vanilla that will remain a mystery until the next visit.
THE VERDICT
I’m delighted to have discovered Gelati Gelato.
It’s a lovely little spot with a huge selection of flavours, and choosing only three was difficult enough.
All three scoops were smooth and creamy.
The Pistachio Bacio brought flavour and crunch.
The mystery vanilla tied everything together.
But the Dulce de Leche was the winner.
That sweet caramel flavour is the reason I’ll be coming back.
Next time, I’ll hopefully bring another taste tester so we can work through a few more flavours.
And perhaps I’ll remember to write down their names.
