THE SAUCE REPORT: Egg Plantation
Egg Plantation
24415 Walnut St, Newhall, CA 91321

THE BREAKFAST THAT TASTES LIKE HOME
I’ve been searching Los Angeles for a British breakfast that actually tastes British.
I may have found it in Newhall.
We arrived at Egg Plantation around 8:45am on Saturday, August 22.
The restaurant was busy inside and outside, as it always seems to be, but somehow we'd timed it perfectly.
No wait.
Straight to a table.
I've eaten here before, and it has been consistently good every time.
For me, this is the best breakfast place in Santa Clarita.
And there was only one thing I was ordering.
The British Breakfast
Simon’s British Breakfast.
Two pork bangers. Two sunny-side-up eggs. Two pieces of English bacon. English-style baked beans. Tomatoes. Mushrooms. Two slices of sourdough toast.
The full works.
Finding a genuinely good British breakfast around Los Angeles is harder than it should be.
Plenty of places can put eggs, sausage, bacon and beans on the same plate.
That doesn't make it British.
This one was different.
The bacon was proper English-style bacon rather than the thin, crispy American version. The baked beans tasted right. The bangers were really good, and the eggs were cooked perfectly.
Even the tomatoes and mushrooms earned their place.
Nothing on the plate felt like filler.
Then our waiter brought over a bottle of HP Brown Sauce without being asked.
A small detail.
But an important one.
You don't serve a proper British breakfast without brown sauce.
The waiter knew it.
We understood each other.
For the first time in a long time, I wasn't eating an American restaurant's interpretation of a British breakfast.
I was eating something that reminded me of home.
At $27, it isn't a cheap breakfast.
But it might be the closest I've found to England without leaving Los Angeles.
The $5 coffee was standard diner-style coffee. Nothing particularly special, but hot, familiar and exactly what I wanted with the meal.

The Chilaquiles
Across the table, my partner ordered the Chef’s Special Chilaquiles for $16.
Tortilla chips covered in green chile sauce, Cotija cheese, green and red onion and cilantro, with two sunny-side-up eggs on top.
Plenty of avocado, sour cream and black beans came on the side.
It looked great when it arrived.
The portion was big, the ingredients worked well together, and my partner absolutely loved it.
Her score for the chilaquiles: 9/10.
The $4 hot tea was fine.
Nothing remarkable.
Nothing wrong with it either.
The Damage
Simon’s British Breakfast: $27
Coffee: $5
Chef’s Special Chilaquiles: $16
Hot Tea: $4
Grand total including tax, before tip: $58
Verdict
Both of us really enjoyed the food.
The chilaquiles delivered on portion, presentation and flavour.
But the British breakfast is the reason I’ll come back.
It didn't feel like an American breakfast wearing a Union Jack and hoping nobody noticed.
It tasted like home.
And that’s much harder to find.
One final thing.
I managed to leave my credit card behind after paying.
I didn't realize until later and had to return the following day to collect it.
Not Egg Plantation’s fault.
Completely mine.
Apparently, the restaurant found its own way to guarantee a return visit.
SAUCE SUMMARY
Best For: A busy weekend breakfast that’s worth getting up early for.
Order: Simon’s British Breakfast or the Chef’s Special Chilaquiles.
Skip: Nothing disappointed, although the coffee and tea were strictly functional.
The Damage: $58 including tax, before tip.
Return Visit: Absolutely. Ideally with the credit card still in my wallet.

BURRITO BELT CHAMPIONSHIP - ENTRY 11
Delicias de puebla
23502 Newhall Ave, Newhall CA 91321
I wasn't actually supposed to be here.
The plan was to pick up coffee from Henry's for Sauce Express.
Then I needed gas.
So I pulled into the Shell station and there it was.
A Burrito Belt contender hiding in plain sight.
Delicias de Puebla operates from inside the gas station, with a small counter where you can sit and eat, although this certainly feels like somewhere built primarily for grabbing your food and heading out.
Coffee could wait.
There was a burrito to test.
I ordered the usual - carne asada burrito with everything - and headed back to Secret Sauce HQ.

First Impressions
This thing had some weight to it.
Delicias de Puebla wasn't messing around with the portion. The burrito arrived properly packed, and cutting it open revealed all the usual suspects:
Carne asada. Rice. Beans. Pico de gallo.
And after last week's encounter with carrots, corn and peas...
It was nice to see everyone behaving themselves again.
More importantly, everything worked together.
No mountain of rice taking over.
No beans dominating every bite.
No filling desperately trying to escape.
Just a nicely balanced burrito where everything seemed to know its role.
Time for the scores.
The Wrap: 6/10
This was probably the weakest part.
The tortilla was slightly flaky and didn't quite have the quality or structure we've seen from some of the stronger Burrito Belt contenders.
It still held everything together, which wasn't an easy job considering how much filling was packed inside.
Perfectly serviceable.
But we're looking for more than serviceable at this stage of the championship.
6/10.
The Carne Question: 7/10
Good carne asada.
Flavorful, well cooked and distributed properly throughout the burrito.
There wasn't one enormous pocket of meat followed by three bites of rice and beans.
Everything was mixed together nicely, meaning the carne stayed part of almost every bite.
Exactly how it should be.
7/10.
The Rice Crime: 7/10
No crime here.
The rice was present, but it knew its place.
Combined with the beans, carne and pico de gallo, everything stayed balanced and nothing overpowered anything else.
Sometimes that's all we're asking for.
7/10.
The Secret Sauce: 7/10
Delicias de Puebla sent us away with three different salsas.
One of the green salsas brought noticeably more heat, while the red and second green were considerably milder.
Three different options meant you could adjust each bite depending on how much heat you wanted.
They complemented the burrito nicely without completely changing it.
A good selection.
7/10.
The Last Burrito: 7/10
Into the air fryer went the leftovers.
And Delicias de Puebla held up.
The filling reheated well, the burrito retained the balance we'd liked the first time around and there wasn't a dramatic overnight decline.
No miraculous transformation either.
Just a good burrito that was still good the following day.
7/10.
Delicias de puebla Scores:

THE VERDICT
Sometimes the Burrito Belt finds you.
Delicias de Puebla wasn't on this week's schedule.
It wasn't even supposed to be part of the day's food plans.
I needed gas.
I saw a burrito.
These things happen.
And I'm glad they did.
This was a generously filled, nicely balanced carne asada burrito where everything worked together rather than fighting for attention.
The tortilla was the weak point, and nothing quite pushed Delicias de Puebla into the upper reaches of the championship.
But 34/50 is still a good showing for a contender I stumbled across completely by accident.
And there's something wonderfully Secret Sauce about finding your next Burrito Belt entry inside a Shell gas station while you're supposed to be picking up coffee.
Never judge a burrito by its gas station.
The leaderboard has not changed, here is our top 6:

SAUCE EXPRESS - STOP 3: HENRY'S COFFEE
Stop number three on The Sauce Express takes us to Henry's Coffee.
The mission remains the same: find a signature coffee good enough to knock Philz' Mint Mojito off the top spot.
This time, we went for the Iced Cookie Butter Latte - a brown sugar latte topped with house-made cookie butter cold foam.
On paper?
This sounded dangerous.
THE VERDICT
It was good.
Sweet, creamy and you could still actually taste the coffee underneath everything going on up top.
But did it blow our socks off?
Not really.
There was nothing wrong with it. We'd happily drink one again.
But Sauce Express isn't looking for nothing wrong with it.
We're looking for the coffee that beats the Mint Mojito.
The Cookie Butter Latte isn't it.
The search continues.
WHAT’S COOKING IN SCV
Openings, events and things worth knowing.
FRIDAY NIGHT: BURGERS, BEER & A BAND
Lucky Luke has another Friday night lined up.
US 99 takes over the Rye Canyon brewery from 6–9pm, while Bomb Burger Foodtruck will be serving from 3–8pm.
Burger.
Beer.
Live music.
We're not going to overcomplicate this one.
That's Friday sorted.
DINNER AND A DINOSAUR
If Friday night needs something slightly bigger than dinner, how about Jurassic Park?
Santa Clarita's City Cinemas heads to William S. Hart Park this Friday for an outdoor screening of the original Jurassic Park.
Grab dinner in Newhall, find yourself a spot and settle in for dinosaurs on the big screen.
Just maybe don't order anything that looks remotely like goat.
ONE LAST NIGHT UNDER THE STARS
Summer isn't going quietly.
This Saturday marks the final Concerts in the Park of 2026, with The Police Experience bringing the music of The Police to Central Park.
Food trucks start serving from 5pm, the music begins at 7pm, and admission is free.
Bring a chair.
Bring a blanket.
Grab something to eat.
And enjoy one last Saturday night at Central Park before the summer series signs off.
Every little thing is going to be alright.
ON NEXT WEEK’S MENU
Burrito Belt Championship - Contender 12
We're getting dangerously close to the end.
Contender 12 enters the Burrito Belt with fewer and fewer chances left to shake up the leaderboard.
At this stage, we're not looking for decent.
We're looking for a contender.
The Great American Burger
Next week, we're keeping things simple.
A proper American burger joint.
Burgers. Fries. Maybe a shake.
No fancy tasting menu. No complicated scorecard.
Just one very important question:
Is it worth the Sauce?
We're Going Doughnut Shopping
Yes, this counts as research.
Next week, we're hitting three different doughnut shops across SCV and bringing the results back to Secret Sauce HQ.
The mission is simple:
Find the doughnuts we'd go back for.
