Bacio di Latte

APPARENTLY, ONE GELATO REVIEW WASN’T ENOUGH
Last week, I went to Gelati Gelato alone.
My wife was understandably a little jealous.
She wanted gelato too.
There was just one condition.
We had to try somewhere different.
That worked out perfectly because we had recently noticed a familiar name had opened at Valencia Town Center.
Bacio di Latte.
We had visited its Westfield Century City location before, so we already knew how good it could be.
Now it was in Santa Clarita.
Naturally, further research was required.
MY ORDER
I went for three flavours in a cup.
Pistacchio.
Chocolate Pistacchio Crunch.
And one wildcard.
Crema Positano.
The Pistacchio was a classic pistachio gelato.
Smooth.
Creamy.
Exactly what you want from the flavour.
The Chocolate Pistacchio Crunch was the more indulgent option, combining pistachio gelato with cream, caramelized cone pieces and chocolate.
There was plenty happening in that scoop.
Then came the one I was least likely to order.
THE WILDCARD
I’m not normally a lemon-dessert person.
Lemon cakes.
Lemon tarts.
Anything lemon-flavoured.
They are rarely what I’m reaching for.
But Crema Positano completely surprised me.
It had a bright lemon flavour with a crunchy, meringue-style texture running through it.
Fresh without being overly sharp.
Rich without becoming too heavy.
And judging by how little remained in the display, other customers may have already discovered it too.
Of the three flavours I ordered, this was the one I kept going back to.
Somewhat unexpectedly, Crema Positano was my favourite.
MY WIFE’S ORDER
She chose two flavours in a cone.
Pistacchio.
And Giandujotto — Hazelnut & Chocolate.
Giandujotto is based on the Italian combination of hazelnut and chocolate known as gianduja, and Bacio di Latte tops its version with whole hazelnuts.
Both flavours were beautifully creamy.
But the Giandujotto was the standout for her.
Deep.
Rich.
And not overwhelmingly sweet.
THE SHOP
We decided to eat inside instead of taking everything home.
The Valencia location isn’t huge, but there is a small bench tucked into the corner where you can sit down.
The shop has a warm, modern feel.
Polished without feeling cold.
And this is probably the biggest compliment I can give it:
Bacio di Latte genuinely reminded me of getting gelato in Italy.
Part of that came from the presentation and the Italian flavour names.
But mostly, it was the texture.
Everything we tried was exceptionally smooth and creamy.
THE VERDICT
I enjoyed Gelati Gelato last week.
But Bacio di Latte is playing at another level.
The Pistacchio was excellent.
The Chocolate Pistacchio Crunch delivered the indulgence its name promised.
My wife loved the Giandujotto.
But the biggest surprise was Crema Positano.
I’m not usually a lemon-dessert person.
Yet it became the flavour I would order again first.
When a gelato shop can make you love the flavour you were least likely to choose, it deserves some recognition.
But this goes beyond a recommendation.
Bacio di Latte has earned the biggest recognition we give.
SAUCE SUMMARY
Best For: Exceptionally smooth, Italian-style gelato at Valencia Town Center.
Order: Crema Positano for the surprise, or Giandujotto if hazelnut and chocolate are more your thing.
Standout: The texture. Every flavour we tried was beautifully smooth and creamy.
Return Visit: Absolutely. There are plenty more flavours requiring further research.
Secret Sauce Score:

Since Secret Sauce began, only one place has received our highest verdict.
Egg Plantation.
Now, Bacio di Latte joins it.
A second restaurant.
A second 9/10.
And only the second place to make us say the words we save for something genuinely special.
BACIO DI LATTE SCORES 9/10 AND GRABS THE SECOND-EVER “IT’S THE SAUCE” BADGE
Reserved for the places that go beyond a recommendation and become somewhere we would actively tell you to seek out.
Exceptionally creamy, genuinely Italian-feeling gelato and one unexpectedly brilliant lemon scoop.
